Henshaw set to return for Connacht, but Heenan suffers shoulder injury

Pat Lam has a growing list of options behind the scrum.

CONNACHT’S BACK ROW has been dealt a blow today with news from the province that Jake Heenan aggravated a shoulder injury in Saturday’s win over the Dragons.

The openside left the field minutes before full-time at the Sportsground with. Though the province’s medics are awaiting results of a scan on the joint it is a worry as Heenan underwent surgery on the shoulder issue in February.

After a bruising 16 – 11 win in Galway, John Muldoon and Quinn Roux sat out yesterday’s training session but will likely be ready to go again for Friday’s trip to Edinburgh.

And (apart of Heenan) there is more good news for Pat Lam as Robbie Henshaw and Kieran Marmion have completed their pre-season programmes and are ready for a competitive game.

The half-back competition will be further boosted by the arrival of scrum-half John Cooney on loan from Leinster and Shane O’Leary’s recovery from a dead leg.

Matt Healy, who fractured his hand in the pre-season friendly against Clermont, returned to the training group, but is still a fortnight away from gametime.
