Robbie Brady withdraws from Ireland squad to undergo groin operation

The Hull midfielder will miss the upcoming games against Germany and Kazakhstan.

NOEL KING WILL be without the services of Robbie Brady for the upcoming dead-rubber World Cup qualifiers against Germany and Kazakhstan.

The Hull midfielder underwent a scan on a groin problem today and it was decided he should have an operation on the injury.

The in-form Dubliner had been part of King’s 25-strong squad for the games on October 11 and 15, the interim boss may now look to some of the recalled names instead for the two games.

Brady’s opponent at the weekend, Jon Walters, was also assessed for a groin problem today. The Stoke man’s fitness ‘will continue to be assessed this week’.

Match of the Day still sets the tone for TV coverage, says Gary Lineker

Walters should not play on the wing. He has no pace and he can’t cross. What is he doing on the wing? Coleman, Brady, McGeady, Pilkington and McClean are our best options in that order. Even Hoolahan and Reid would make more sense. Walters should be back up striker after Long, Keane, Doyle and Stokes. Long is more versatile and Doyle is better at heading and holding the ball up.

Here’s a bit of news Bad Lieutenant. Jon Walters was being played on the wing by the last manager. Remember, the Italian chap with the white hair? Yea, they sacked him.

Dead Rubbers? Hardly! What if we beat Germany and Kazakhstan, and Austria beat Sweden one nil, and then lose 6 nil to the Faroes. Then all we’d need is Sweden to lose to Germany at home and hope our points tally is good enough to not be eliminated as the worst runner up in Europe and we are sorted.

To term these games as dead rubbers is a disgrace!
