Penney calls for improvements after Ulster defeat

Munster take on Gloucester in the Heineken Cup next weekend and could have Conor Murray back to ease the growing casualty list.

ROB PENNEY BELIEVES Munster must improve on their finishing and where they control the game after watching his side lose out to Ulster last night.

The visitors went down 29-19 to their provincial rivals at Ravenhill with Ian Keatley guilty of missing four kicks and opposite number Ruan Pienaar scoring a total of 19 points on the night.

Next weekend sees Munster travel to Gloucester for a Heineken Cup meeting and head coach Penney insists there are a number of parts to their game which need to be put right.

“Our finishing prowess with the kicking and our control of the game and control of the position on the park where we’re playing our rugby in,” Penney said.

So we get that bit right and we can prove that we’ve got fantastic maul, we know that. Our set piece operates really efficiently, (but) we’ve just got to get better at keeping the ball in the right parts of the field.”

Penney may have to deal with several injuries with the likes of Cathal Sheridan and Donncha O’Callaghan forced off the field early on but he revealed that Conor Murray could return for the Gloucester game.

“There is a chance, always was,” he said. “Hopefully everything being equal and the work that is being done by the medical team and behind the scenes comes to fruition this week.

“You give them the time to do their work and hopefully they produce the athlete for you at the end of that process and we’re nearing that so hopefully we’ll have him back.”
