ROB HEFFERNAN MADE a nation proud this morning when he stormed to a World Championship Gold Medal for the 50km Walk in Moscow.

The Cork athlete claimed Ireland’s first medal of the 2013 games with a walk that was just outside a national record but far too hot for the stellar field he was competing against.

Sporting stars such as Derval O’Rourke, Alan Quinlan, Olive Loughnane and Jamie Heaslip were among the thousands tweeting their message of congratulations and support to Heffernan.
