THE SEARCH FOR noted endurance athlete Micah True concluded yesterday evening with the discovery of the 58-year-old’s body in New Mexico’s Gila National Park.
True, the inspirational hero of Christopher McDougall’s endurance running best-seller “Born to Run”, disappeared last week after embarking on a routine 12-mile circuit of the trails surrounding the park’s Wilderness Lodge.
Speaking to the Boulder Daily Camera immediately following the discovery, incident commander Tom Bemis said True’s body showed “no obvious signs of trauma”, but intimated that a more thorough examination was currently ongoing.
A legend among the ultrarunning community, True is particularly famous for taking up residence among the Tarahumara, a desert tribe based in the remote Copper Canyons of Mexico.
