ACCORDING TO REPORTS, a street protest in Rio de Janeiro has led to police using tear gas to disperse the crowd, estimated at between 500 – 600 people.
Having begun hours before the Argentina versus Bosnia game fixed for an 11pm GMT kick-off at the city’s iconic Maracana Stadium, the protest was heavily monitored and marshalled by police who carried nightsticks and various other weapons.
Shortly before 10pm GMT, as the crowd moved towards the Maracana, tear-gas was fired and a police helicopter circled overhead.
Various sports journalists were close to the scenes and tweeted some vivid pictures.
