Richie Sadlier's classic response to THAT RTÉ caption

We’re looking forward to seeing Broadford Rovers get a mention on the telly this evening.

LIKE MANY OF you, we got a laugh last week when, during RTÉ’s analysis of Arsenal’s Champions League first leg with Fenerbahce, they decided to include a rather obscure caption above Richie Sadlier’s name (see below).

Going by his latest tweet, the pundit (a legendary figure at his boyhood club Broadford Rovers) is hoping to have it changed for this evening’s live game between Celtic and Shakhter Karagandy.

I personally think he’s a very good pundit. His articles in Sunday Independent over the years have always been insightful and a must – read.

I have to admit. He’s growing on me. Least he can poke fun at himself and his analysis is improving.

So what Richie is saying is that you can’t blame Irish people for not going to watch shite football but at the same time the only way to make the football any better is if people actually get off there arse and go and watch it ?

    That makes sense

100% agree, but the reality is, when Dunphy goes on one of his rants, he makes every paper and every conversation about the match the next day. Although people think he talks crap, which he does, people still watch it!

RTE don’t care why people watch, once they watch! Higher numbers means more money throu advertising for them.

Just because someone may be an ex-pro, doesn’t make them a good pundit, just look at the clowns we have to listen to on a weekly basis, Owen, Redknapp, Savage, Hansen, Lawrenson etc.

They were all good players (some better than others) but that doesn’t always make them a good pundit. Gary Neville & Jamie Carragher are doing a great job with Sky, really good to listen to.

I like Sadlier, he’s certainly more modern than Dunphy, Giles & Bill Herlihy (who, for what it’s worth, hasn’t a bloody notion about football).

Noting against the lad he’s a decent pundit, but could RTE not find someone who has played recently at the top level in order to give the viewers some inside knowledge of the game ??

Sadlier is a very good pundit and played well over 100 times for Millwall as well as playing for Ireland against Russia before having to retire due to injury… What sort of a fecking insight do ya want?
