Richie Sadlier: 'I can't take anyone seriously who thinks Suarez should remain at Liverpool'

The RTÉ pundit is also pessimistic about Ireland’s chances of World Cup qualification.

RTÉ PUNDIT RICHIE Sadlier believes Luis Suarez is right to seek a move away from Liverpool, but questioned the wisdom of the Uruguayan international speaking so publicly about his unhappiness.

Speaking to TheScore.ie, he said that neutral fans recognise why Suarez wants to leave.

“I can’t take anyone seriously who thinks that Suarez should remain at Liverpool,” he said “If you’re worth 40 or 50 million and clubs in the Champions League want you, why would you stay in that Liverpool squad now.

“[That argument] would only come from Liverpool fans who are not objective.”

Nevertheless, Sadlier believes Suarez may end up regretting expressing his desire to leave in an interview with The Guardian.

“I don’t know what material difference it would make to the situation, because the Liverpool directors and the manager have a stance.

“I don’t think it changes because the fact that Suarez does an interview. Whether he’s trying to get the public behind him or get people to understand… but it doesn’t at all.

“That’s why you remain silent – because when the transfer deadline passes, you say ‘there was a lot of soul searching, I sat down with my family and advisors, and it’s in the past now. That’s easier to say when you’ve been quiet during the transfer period.”

He added: “I think he’ll leave – there’s absolutely no way he can stay after what he said.”

Meanwhile, asked about the Irish football team’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup next June, the former Millwall man was less than optimistic.

“In September if we have a bad week, it’s the end of the qualifying campaign. It’s going to be a very difficult week.

“At the start, with the manager in charge, I thought we’d struggle to finish second and I still think that’s the case.”

He also spoke about his “enjoyable” new role contributing to the Second Captains podcast, and paid tribute to those involved.

“It’s a different set, we’re in a different room but the experience is pretty much the same. You just go in, have a rough idea of what you speak about beforehand.

“I have a huge amount of time for the lads and how they go about their job. I think they’re excellent at what they do. Whatever they put their hand to, they’ll be huge successes.”

Richie is still miles better than most on RTE and even further ahead than whatever any UK pundit has to offer.

Hate that whole “couldn’t respect his opinion as he never played at the top” argument. What did mourinho or wenger win as a player. Would you prefer to listen to Micheal Owens punditry over sadlier.

This man knows little or nothing about football. To compare him to actual talent that works on sky is scandalous. I believe I seen this man play live for Millwall a few years back. He is desperately bad.

Sadlier appears to be a a mixture of Dunphy and Brolly, the worst from both of them with a large shovel full of his own stupidity, he is a nothing, a nobody, a very annoying nobody, what makes it more annoying Mr Rabbitt is making me pay for him to spout his drivel on our national airwaves. Can I ask LFC fans, why do you still defend Suarez? Why do you want him at your club? His behavior will probably only get worse if he doesn’t get his way.

Ok maybe a bit cryptic. The club don’t want to sell him to Arsenal for 2/3 of what he is worth. Do you think any club is going to sell a player based on the buyers valuation? Thats not how the market works. Even though he is a gimp, he is an asset.

If a person changes what they have said in the past then that just makes them a hypocrite. So I won’t change my view on Suarez in the past. However I don’t agree with his stance now and think its poor form but symptomatic of top stars today. While Liverpool have a lot of catching up to do on last years top four they will never do if they let their top players go to the very teams they are trying to close the gap on. From that perspective I completely agree with the club’s stance. Regarding Richard Sadlier’s stance he is essentially agreeing with player power and this trend of not honouring their contracts.

While I can see it perfectly from an economic point of view, he is a valuable asset, I’m looking to answer really from that as a person/footballer.
EVen the most ardent LFC fan can see this lad is a nutjob and when he comes back after his 6 match ban there is a high possibility that he could be gone again for another infraction.

Ok, IF Suarez never played for LFC, then think of the amount of media attention which LFC wouldn’t have got. It would have been more game related, would it not?

Add to that Sterling now in bother!

No offence but you really need to get off the pedestal commenting on Liverpool players as a United supporter. it smacks of the hypocrisy I referred to my earlier post. All clubs have bad eggs and there are some absolute nut jobs and individuals with no moral standards playing soccer for every club in every division. Rightly or wrongly players aren’t signed for their pleasing personalities. I suppose that is where the comment ” a gentleman’s game played by hooligans” came from

Not on a pedestal at all, I am curious as to why Suarez gets unswaying support from LFC fans. In our camp the rooney series is embarrassing, as a fan of the club he should be kicked out the door, the guy is overpaid, yes a world talent, but i will NOT support the guy even if he stays.

Are supporters of other clubs not allowed to comment on LFC players without been lablelled?

Unfortunetly for Suarez, much as I’d like to see him go to a Euro club, it’s not something he has control over. Liverpool are taking the right stance, the market is a joke if a player worth much more, with 3 years on a contract gets sold just because he wants to go. Having said that I like the Walcott plus 35 million idea.

I Dont want him at Liverpool anymore. He has to be sold, i only want players at pool who want to be there, but the owner is right not to sell him to arsenal. We are unfortunately only aiming at fourth spot and they have that spot so why would you give them your best player. To the fool that says Liverpool and arsenal are not rivals does that explain it enough for your small brain. As for city we were never rivals and only in recent years has a rivalry with Chelsea existed. Regardless of league position united and Liverpool will always be rivals. Good luck with Moyes be prepared for a negative manager who will flop.
