Reid out for the season

The West Brom star has injured ankle ligaments and is expected to be out for three months

STEVEN REID WILL miss the rest of the season after scans confirmed the right-back injured left-ankle ligaments against Chelsea last Saturday, his club have confirmed.

The former Ireland international’s career has been revived since he moved to West Brom, where he had finally managed a long run in the side after an injury-addled spell at Blackburn Rovers.

Reid saw a specialist in Holland yesterday and will undergo surgery next week, with the club confirming they expect to see the midfielder-turned-defender back to full fitness for the beginning of next season.

Head coach Roy Hodgson said: “It’s a major blow to lose Steven.

“He’s done so well at the club since I came here just over a year ago.

“He’s been outstanding. It’s not the same injury he suffered at Newcastle.

“It’s the same ankle but this time it’s an internal ligament rather than an external ligament.”
