Ref justice: Danish football fan fined €250k for attacking referee
The match between Denmark and Sweden in 2007 was abandoned when Ronni Norvig tried to punch referee Herbert Fandel.
A DANISH FOOTBALL supporter has been ordered to pay almost 1.9 million Danish krone (€255,480) for attacking a referee during a match in 2007.
Denmark’s appeal court more than doubled the damages owed by Ronni Norvig after it upheld an initial judgement which ordered the fan to pay 900,000 kroner to the Danish football association.

Norvig ran onto the pitch and tried to punch German referee Herbert Fandel in the dying minutes of Denmark’s European Championship qualifier against Sweden in June 2007.
With the game tied at 3-3, Fandel sent off Denmark’s Christian Poulsen and awarded the visitors a late penalty. The match was abandoned following Norvig’s attack and Sweden were awarded a 3-0 win.
UEFA subsequently fined the Danish FA for the incident and banned the national side from playing their next two qualifiers at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium.
The Danish FA successfully sued for loss of earnings but was only awarded 900,000 kroner initially before the sum was more than doubled following Norvig’s failed appeal.
