Red Hand rocked as Cavanagh ruled out for the season

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte says that the four-time All-Star will play no part in this summer’s championship.

SEAN CAVANAGH WILL play no part in Tyrone’s championship challenge this summer after he was ruled out for the rest of the season.

The four-time All-Star dislocated his shoulder during a club game with Moy last Sunday, throwing his fitness into doubt ahead of the Red Hand’s Ulster SFC opener against Armagh on 10 June.

But following a scan today, Tyrone manager Mickey Harte confirmed via the county’s official Twitter page that Cavanagh will miss the entire championship.

The 29-year-old, who was bidding for a fourth All-Ireland winners medal, sat out last autumn’s International Rules series after he detached a tendon in his other shoulder during a training exercise.

The injury left him fearing for his career but he returned to action during the National Football League campaign in March.

He now joins Ronan O’Neill, Kyle Coney and Tommy McGuigan on the Red Hand’s injury list, while Davy Harte is battling to overcome a groin injury in time to play against Armagh.
