EARLIER THIS WEEK, we featured IRFU high performance nutritionist Nora Ní Fhlannagáin explaining the benefits of breakfast.
Today, listen to her thoughts on the most basic element of body fuel – liquid. So grab a litre bottle of water, press play and feel better.
So aside from putting our pee against a colour chart, the big lesson we can take away from Ní Fhlannagáin is the handy (if a little daunting) formula of bodyweight x 50 = a daily recommended fluid intake.
Ní Fhlannagáin uses the example of a 75 kg athlete drinking 3.75 litres. To our shame, though, TheScore.ie is closer to 85 or 90kg so we would have to take on an extra pint or two.
Looks like she is taking the piss!,
I should be taking in almost 6 litres a day. I’d have to get one of those stadium pals.
That’s a serious amount of fluids.
