Rayo Vallecano fans stage a mock funeral for 'the soul of football'

The Spanish club’s supporters lamented a sport ‘killed by corruption, business and crazy kick-off times’.

A SECTION OF Rayo Vallecano fans made themselves conspicuous by staging a mock funeral for ‘the soul of football’ amid their 3-0 loss to Valladolid on Friday night.

The Rayo Vallecano ultras, known as the ‘Bukaneros,’ were dressed in all black and held up a sign that claimed the sport has been ‘killed by corruption, business and crazy kick-off times’.

Their coterie included several candles and people dressed as bishops, and they also went to the trouble of bringing a coffin to the game.

Moreover, it’s not the first time that Rayo Vallecano have encountered protests by some of their fans. Many home supporters previously boycotted the opening 24 minutes of last month’s game with Levante in protest at having to endure the team’s unusual kick-off times.
