Rafa Benitez is the new Chelsea manager

The former Liverpool chief has penned a short-term contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit.

FORMER LIVERPOOL BOSS Rafa Benitez has tonight been confirmed as the new Chelsea manager.

The Spaniard takes over from Roberto di Matteo who was sacked today.

Benitez — who led the Reds to a famous Champions League success in 2005 — has penned a short-term contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit.

“Chelsea Football Club can confirm Rafael Benitez has been appointed interim first-team manager until the end of the season,” a statement on the club’s website reads.

“The owner and the Board believe that in Benitez we have a manager with significant experience at the highest level of football, who can come in and immediately help deliver our objectives. The 52-year-old Spaniard is due to meet the players at the training ground in Cobham tomorrow.”
