MARK QUIGLEY HAS been named Aitricity/Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Player of the Month for August.
The Sligo Rovers striker has been in flying form this season as the club close in on a first league title since 1977.
In the absence of main goalscoring threat Danny North, who is out injured for the season, 26-year-old Quigley has stepped up and scored 12 times for the Bit O’Red this season, four of which came last month.
The Dubliner beat Shamrock Rovers midfielder Ronan Finn and team-mate Pascal Millien to the award and told SligoRovers.com: “I’ve won it a couple of times before and I suppose it is recognition that you have been playing well. I’ve been in decent form recently and had a good run in the team which I think has helped alot.”
He was absent from the team which beat Dundalk 3-0 last week due to a hamstring injury but has fully recovered in time for tomorrow night’s meeting Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.
Bray are a team that sometimes struggle, but I know from playing against them through the years that they will always give you a tough game,” he added.
With just six fixtures remaining, Ian Baraclough’s side have one hand on the trophy as they lead second-placed Drogheda United by six points and with a game in-hand.
