Guinness confirmed as new Pro12 title sponsor

The Irish brewery takes over sponsorship of the league from RaboDirect.

THE PRO12 HAVE confirmed Guinness as the new title sponsor of the league, replacing RaboDirect ahead of the 2014/15 season.

No details of the length of the agreement have been officially confirmed, although it is believed the deal will last for an initial two-year term.

Guinness seem a strong fit to take over from RaboDirect, given their existing associations with rugby. Ireland’s November Test series are sponsored by the brewery, who were also previously title sponsors of the English Premiership.

RaboDirect, a Dutch online banking company, secured the sponsorship in 2011, enjoying a three-year association with the Pro12. However, news of Guinness’ involvement will be welcomed by many fans, who see the company as a logical sponsor.

Pro12 chief executive John Feehan was understandably pleased to announce the deal.

We are delighted that Guinness, an international brand with a strong pedigree in rugby, will be our title sponsor and we are looking forward to working with Guinness in actively developing the profile and stature of our competition which boasts some of the biggest names in world rugby.”

Meanwhile, sales and marketing director Charlie McEwan said:

“Today’s announcement and that of the Sky Sports partnership earlier in the year provides the backdrop for an exciting new dawn for the Guinness Pro12. We look forward to a compelling season of rugby and working with our new partners to promote the competition.”
