Who cares if it's two months away? Here are the new season's Premier League fixtures

World Cup, schmworld cup (we don’t really mean that).

MANCHESTER CITY WILL open their Premier League title defence away to Newcastle United next season.

Manuel Pellegrini’s champions face plenty of early tests with clashes against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in their first five games.

The Football Association this morning released the full fixture list for the 2014/2015 season which kicks off on the weekend of the 16th and 17th of August.

By that stage, the World Cup will be a distant memory and Louis van Gaal will be preparing for his first league game as Manchester United manager, at home to Swansea.

Elsewhere Liverpool host another of the league’s new bosses, Ronald Koeman, who brings Southampton to Anfield while Arsenal welcome Crystal Palace to the Emirates.

The league’s new boys all face tricky tasks with Burnley hosting Chelsea, Leicester City at home to Everton and QPR taking on Hull.

We’ll only have to wait until the second weekend for the first big heavyweight clashes. Last year’s champions and runners-up, Man City and Liverpool, meet in the Etihad on 23/24 August while Everton play Arsenal that same weekend.

As for the run-in, City appear to have avoided any real banana skins. They finish with Aston Villa (H), Tottenham Hotspur (A), QPR (H), Swansea (A) and Southampton (H) in their final five games.

And if you’re looking for potential title deciders, how about Chelsea v Liverpool on 9 May or Manchester United v Arsenal a week later on 16 May?
