Poll: who’ll win the Premier League title?

On the eve of another top-flight season in England, have your say on where the trophy will go.

This is what it's all about.
This is what it's all about.

THE PREMIER LEAGUE season kicks off in 24 hours’ time, whether you’re ready or not Mr Wenger.

Champions Manchester United have added youth to their squad with the arrivals of the likes of Ashley Young,  David De Gea and Phil Jones.

Down the road, Sergio Aguero has rocked up to Eastlands in the most eye-catching transfer of the summer.

Chelsea – though quiet in the summer market – will hope new boss André Villa-Boas makes his mark and January signing Fernando Torres shows his worth at last.

The less said, perhaps, about Arsenal’s summer the better; but at the time of writing Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri remain on the books, at least.

We’ve had our say with our power-rankings – but who do you think will lift the trophy come May?

i am a massive utd fan and after last weeks proper attacking football i am very excited about this season, i would love Liverpool to do well cos there is nothing like the banter between utd fans and pool fans!

    • I’m a huge Liverpool fan Kate, been born n bred on football and I couldnt agree more, the banter, sometimes a bit too close to the knuckle, is priceless. Have ya ever been to a Liverpool v Man U game?…jeez it’s passionate isn’t it :-)

  • Obviously a lot of optimistic/delusional Liverpool fans in Ireland!

    • Was thinking the same thing.

    • Well you don’t support a team by believing they’ll do Fu*k all do ya!

    • @Neil Casey – Agreed.

I wonder if there is much difference between the odds that Ladbrokes Ireland offer on Livperpool winning the league vs the odds Ladbrokes UK offer? I think the fact that there so many Liverpool fans here would mean that the odds would be driven down by them betting on the team to win the league. Whereas there would be less Liverpool fans as of a percentage of the overall market in the UK, therefore the odds the bookie offers on this bet would be better. Just a thought.

@Shirley Cummings – no but there’s a difference between supporting your team and living in cloud cuckoo land.

    • The whole ‘This is our year’ thing from Liverpool fans is a running joke at this stage. Except its not funny, its just sad. I almost feel sorry for ‘Pool fans.

    • @both of you, I think you’ll find if you speak to realistic Liverpool fans they don’t believe for one minute that the league will be theirs this season.

    • “realistic Liverpool fans”

That’s an oxymoron if ever I’ve heard one.

      Reply
    • @Shirley Cummings – at this moment in time 5 times more people think that Liverpool will win the league than Man City according to the poll.

This leads me to believe that either there are a lot of people that know nothing about football voting or a lot of unrealistic Liverpool fans voting. i’m guessing the latter……

    • Or thirdly, lostintallaght, Liverpool fans just like trolling polls like this. That’s why I voted.

I’m pretty sure 90%-95% of Liverpool fans don’t honestly believe we’ll win the title this year.

    • Liverpool will have a good season. They’ve bought PL experience while Arsenal seem to be losing it (and I think United have more issues to confront than the pundits seem to think).

But the only reason for Liverpool being given way more votes that Man City and Chelsea is because of the high number of Liverpool fans in Ireland from the Betamax days. Realistically, City and Chelsea are much stronger than Liverpool at the moment.

    • @ Neil. I don’t go along with the consensus that Man City will challenge for the title and are considerably stronger than Liverpool. Up front Tevez is unsettled, Balotelli is a loose cannon & Dzeko is a huge waste of money. Aguero looks dangerous – but there’s no guarantee he will settle in English football. Joe Hart is error prone and Mancini is a mediocre manager.

    • @Kevin Coleman – What was trolling in my post? A serious question. I simply stated an opinion based on the stats in the poll. There is no way that 5 times more people think Liverpool will win the league than City so the people voting for them are either Liverpool fans or they don’t understand football.

If you have an issue with anything I’ve posted then you should report it.

    • I support the Irish football and I am under no illusion that they will win anything I still support them though.

    • @John Manahan – Joe Hart error prone? He was part of the meanest defence in the premier league last season (just 33 goals conceded IIRC). Pretty much agree with everything else you say though apart from Dzeko, I have a feeling he’ll come good this season. Mancini is the clubs weakest link imo, a very defensively minded manager.

    • I am a Liverpool fan and no we won’t win it but utd don’t have a divine right to it either so a portin of that 50% you could say are deluded too. Utd fans are the first to right off city because of who they are, but if they get their act together, they will/could be the team to beat.

  • Strange that there are only 9 votes for Chelsea (as of 12.40) given that they won the title 15 months ago and have an excellent manager. I should add that I don’t support Chelsea. @lostinTallaght – would the ‘cloud cuckoo land’ u refer to be the same one Man U fans inhabited in late May, when they thought they would beat Barca.

    Reply
    • @John Manahan – I have no idea John I’ve never lived there. I don’t know many United fans that though they would beat Barca either, maybe you do.

RE Chelsea, that side needs an overhaul and has a manager that is unproven in England so far. Also, Chelsea do not have a traditionally strong following in Ireland and people in these sorts of polls generally vote for who they support rather than who they think will actually win it. Liverpool’s strong showing in the poll being a case in point.

  • Man Utd are going to walk it again this year. Now the Champions League is another story.

    Reply
    • May well win the league. But yeah, no reason to think they will beat Barca if they meet them again. They seem to be Uniteds kryptonite. Uniteds only hope might be that somebody else beats Barca like Inter Milan did in 2010. I don’t think United are capable of playing the way Inter Milan played that tie.

  • This whole thing about Liverpool fans and “This is our year” thing is a myth, propagated by that dreadful Football365 website and the like. Ask any Liverpool fan what the aim this season is, and they’ll tell you Top 4.

Man City will not win the league with Mancini in charge, Man Utd need a couple of midfielders because at the moment they have Anderson, Carrick and what Fletcher, with the latter looking like he’s an extra from Trainspotting. Chelsea will win it, I think. Especially if they get Modric. He’s exactly the kind of player they need to supply Torres.

As for Arsenal… it’s impossible to make any judgment on them until Sep 1st when all the transfer business has been completed. But by that stage they could be out of the champion’s League.
