Poll: were Wolves right to sack Mick McCarthy?

WOLVES HAVE CONFIRMED that Mick McCarthy’s contract has been terminated.

Yesterday’s 5-1 home defeat to West Brom in the Black Country derby was, it seems, the last straw for owner Steve Morgan.

The defeat – for which McCarthy subsequently apologised – saw the Molineux club slip back into the bottom three.

McCarthy led the club to promotion in 2009 and his kept them there since, but they have struggled this campaign. The former Ireland skipper and manager led Wolves to safety from a worse position last year, however.

Steve Bruce and Neil Warnock are the early frontrunners in the race to succeed McCarthy.

So, were the club right to sack the manager today?

  • Freak results happen like that of WBA 5-1 win all the time, sure Liverpool were beating 2-1 by some crap side only this weekend, no knee jerk reaction from them. :-)

Yes, surprised he lasted thus long, wolves are amongst to the top 10 if not higher spending Prem league clubs and look where they have been for the last few seasons. Compare that to Everton who survive on a shoestring budget.

  • It was time for him to go. Any side that loses at home 5-1 to a team managed by the most negative manager in the league other than pulis deserves the sack.

Hope he gets the Leeds job, have great respect for the man, just went stale at molineux

  • While sad to see him go I think it all comes down to timing. With 5 of the next 6 games easily winnable it would make sense to get a new manager off to a good start.
