IRELAND BOSS GIOVANNI Trapattoni will sign a new deal this coming week, according to several Sunday newspaper reports.
The Italian has overseen the Republic of Ireland’s qualification to the 2012 European Championships – the team’s first international tournament since the 2002 World Cup – and the new agreement will see him continue in the role until 2014.
Assistant manager Marco Tardelli and fitness coach Fausto Rossi are also set to stay on.
Trapattoni and his team are expected to take some element of a pay cut and are due to ink the contract in Dublin over the coming days before flying to Kiev for the 2012 European Championships draw on Friday.
“We have agreed in principle and everything is going forward but it is not signed,” Trapattoni is quoted as saying by the Sunday Independent (see print edition).
The 72-year-old’s contract situation has been the centre of much speculation in recent weeks but do you think it was the right decision?
