A POLISH JOURNALIST has sent TheJournal.ie pictures of clashes between fans and the police in Wroclaw on Saturday night.
Mateusz Kulik was at the match between Poland and Czech Republic, with the tournament co-hosts exiting Euro 2012 after suffering a 1-0 defeat.
“Yesterday, I was in the heart of clashes between Polish fans and the police,” says Mateusz.
“In my opinion it is Polish police force that has to be blamed for sparking those fights, (causing) fans’ aggressive behaviour.
“In the last seconds of the match I saw a group of police enforcers chasing one man, I don’t know what he was chased for.
“I sprinted after them to take pictures. After a while I was hit several times by the police using their bats. I got hit in the back of my head, my back and kidney as well as my camera, damaging the lens hood.
“This, I believe, got the watching fans madden (sic). Covering myself with my arms I was getting more hits from the police when other supporters grabbed me to pull me out from there.”
