Poitrenaud in, Medard out of Ireland clash

We’ve been here before as we count down to another Paris trip this weekend.

IRELAND GOT THEIR Six Nations campaign up and running with a win against Italy on Saturday… but it’s France next up.

Declan Kidney’s side face Les Bleus in that rearranged fixture at the Stade de France on Sunday (3pm). The game was cancelled moments before kick-off due to a frozen pitch earlier this month.

Today, France have called up Clement Poitrenaud to their side after full-back Maxime Medard was ruled out with a knee injury.

Medard scored a crucial try against Scotland yesterday, with the away side running out 23-17 winners. He later sustained the injury and it remains unclear how long he’s facing on the sidelines.

“He is an obvious choice. There are not many (full-backs) in our squad,” France head coach Phillipe Saint-Andre said of Poitrenaud in L’Equipe. “There were one or two options but we have chosen Clement, who will be joining us this afternoon.”
