‘The patron saint of the clenched fist’ – Poet pays tribute to Roy Keane

‘Hail to the Tempest’ by Musa Okwonga paints the ex-United and Ireland footballer in a mythical light.

WHETHER YOU LOVE or hate Roy Keane, there is no denying he’s a fascinating individual.

And while the Manchester United legend has received many honours over the course of his career, until now, he has not been the subject of poetry.

‘Hail to the Tempest’ by Musa Okwonga paints the controversial Irishman in a largely favourable light, encapsulating Keane’s personality, with the lines:

“Keen? His name was an understatement

“Since he was the definition of what obsessive is.”
