The Clare People have a great back page on the Collins' decision to play football

Podge and Sean Collins won’t be playing for Davy Fitzgerald’s hurlers next year.

YESTERDAY, DUAL STAR Podge Collins and his brother Sean decided to just play for the Clare footballers next season. Their decision to play solely for the football team, who are managed by their father Colm, wasn’t universally popular in Clare and the Clare People captured their dilemma with this great back page photo.

My respect for them has gone way up. Davy needs to look in the mirror he’s a little dictator who could well be the creator and destroyer of his own team. I’d say Clare people would be a lot happier if Anthony Daly got the job in the next two years.

You’re not wrong Jack, you’re not wrong!

Davy Fitz is well on the way to destroying all that was great about the Clare senior hurling team last year. Most of the players have played under the current U21 joint managers who are gentlemen. They way they carry themselves on the line and in interviews is exemplary. I’d imagine the players must get fair sick of looking and listening to Davy and his antics.

He was lucky the Waterford lads didn’t leave him in a bog somewhere and you can see the same thing happening in Clare. If Anthony Daly plays his cards right he’ll be back in charge this time 12 months.

As a Clareman, this isn’t as big a deal as the media or anyone else is making out. Davy has decided that he won’t be considering players that wish to play football and not 100% concentrate on hurling, as manager he’s entitled if he believes that this will benefit the hurling team. Not saying he’s right but it’s his opinion. Podge and Sean are in a tough position in that their Dad is manager of the football team and has made great strides with them albeit from a low base but they did win more games last year than our hurlers;)
In Clare we’re very proud of any of our lads that do so much for either the hurling or football team and we’re very excited about the current crop of talent coming through. It’s a pity that because of everyone’s fascination with Davy that they miss the huge benefit to the football team.
Also I don’t remember such hysteria when Tomas Brady and Cormac Costello both decided to stick with Dub footballers and not the Hurlers and I’m sure it happens in other counties too

Can’t blame them for wanting to play for their dad. Their still wearing the county jersey and they are helping Clare football and their dad out so happy days.

Good luck to both of them. They owe Claire hurling nothing. As for Davy, the proof will be in the seeing next season. I hope they all excel

Fair enough playing for the father. But do they want do win something again. Podge has a chance to be among the best with the hurlers, huge opportunities to win more silverware. This simply wont happen with the football.

Clare wouldn’t beat eggs in Football ~ don’t be codding yourselves..Davy Fitzgerald seems to come in for a lot of stick in Clare which looking in from the outside is grossly unfair..’You will never be a prophet in your own Town’ (except Kilkenny) is fairly apt..
