Player ratings: here's how we rated the Boys in Green

Read how we think the Irish players got on in Torshavn tonight.

Keiren Westwood – 6 Had to pull off a smart save from Daniel Udson’s cross-cum-shot after 18 minutes. Didn’t manage a clean sheet but will be a lot happier tonight.

Seamus Coleman – 6 Dealt with his marker well and got forward to support Brady in the first half. Those two could well be the future of Ireland’s right-side.

John O’Shea – 5 Didn’t have a whole lot to do but was poor for the Faroes goal – standing off Hansen when he should have been closer to his man.

Darren O’Dea – 6 After a miserable night in Dublin, had a better game here. Blocked Edmundsson when the midfielder was put through at the end of the first half and fine header for Ireland’s fourth.

Marc Wilson – 7 A solid but unspectacular display which he will remember for forever after capping his first competitive start with a cracking goal, which admittedly took a deflection.

Aiden McGeady – 6 Hit and miss from the Spartak Moscow winger. Put in several good deliveries and was often our most dangerous outlet, but gave away possession needlessly at times too.

James McCarthy – 7 The Wigan midfielder was tidy in the middle of the park. Would like to see him impose himself on the game even more in the future.

Keith Andrews – 6 Was keen to get forward and was involved in Ireland’s two best chances of the first half. Headed wide from a McGeady cross then nodded on for Walters’s shot.

Robbie Brady – 6 Full of condience on his senior debut, and had Ireland’s first shot on seven minutes. Wasn’t given enough time to impress however, as Trap replaced him with Simon Cox at half-time.

Jonathan Walters – 7 Used his physical presence to harass and close down the Faroes defenders at ever opportunity. Missed a headed chance in the first half but made up with Ireland’s second.

Robbie Keane – 5 A couple of early touches but little of real substance from the returning Ireland skipper. Two shots wide of the mark in the second half then tried to claim the second goal before being taken off.

Substitutes

Simon Cox (for Brady, 45′) – 5 On for the second half but didn’t bring much to the table and is clearly not a winger despite the Italian’s persistence in playing him there.

Shane Long (for Keane, 80′) – 5 Unfortunately, only given ten minutes to show what he could do and got a handful of touches.

David Meyler (for Andrews, 91′) Not on long enough to be rated.
