Pint in Quinn's? Sunderland rename stadium bar to honour Big Niall

Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…

FOR YEARS AS a player and as club chairman, Niall Quinn gave Sunderland’s fans something to smile about. Now they’ll be able to raise a glass of thanks in a bar bearing his name.

Sunderland announced today the sports bar in the Stadium of Light has been renamed in the Dubliner’s honour following his decision to step down from the Sunderland board in February.

“Quinn’s” will be decorated with jerseys and graphics from throughout the Irish legend’s time at the club, including one of his most famous quotes: “I learned my trade at Arsenal, became a footballer at Manchester City, but Sunderland got under my skin. I love Sunderland.”

Quinn was back on Wearside earlier this week to launch his annual “Niall’s Mile” fundraising walk and stopped into the bar to enjoy the first pint of Guinness pulled since its revamp.

“Niall is a very unassuming man and the idea of statues and stands in his honour really didn’t sit comfortably with him,” club chief executive Margaret Byrne said, “but we all know how much he likes a pint or two so we think we’ve come up with the perfect tribute!”
