'We had a system in place and we stuck to it' - Philly McMahon

The Dublin star was keen to heap praise on first-year boss Jim Gavin.

DUBLIN HAD A plan in place this year and first-time boss Jim Gavin was going to make sure they stuck to it, especially when it came to the All-Ireland final according to Philly McMahon.

Speaking to RTE, the Ballymun Kickhams defender said:

“He [Jim Gavin] has put a system in place, he’s told us to go out and express ourselves and we have done.

“We were definitely full of belief, we showed that today.

“We stuck to the game plan, we worked for it and that [the win] was the end product.”

The Shamrock Rovers strength and conditioning coach also expects to get a lot of stick from the Hoops after some of the Dublin players began to tire towards the end of the game.

“A few of the lads wilted towards the end and I’ll probably get a bit of stick off the Shamrock Rovers lads for that but it was great to come out with a win at the end.”

If a few players huffing and puffing surprised McMahon, Bernard Brogan hitting top form again didn’t:

“He’s been doing it in training so it’s no surprise he did it today.”

And as for that gash on his face at the end of the game, just a war wound.

“There was a lot of aggression out there today, but you wouldn’t want it any other way.”
