Phil Neville is Match Of The Day's newest signing

Despite his World Cup commentary, the BBC have stood by Phil Neville

IN ONE OF the few instances where the “dreaded” vote of confidence is actually just a vote of confidence, Phil Neville is going to join BBC’s Match of the Day team from next season.

Neville’s low talking monotone during the World Cup drew heavy criticism in the form of 445 complaints from BBC viewers as well multiple Twitter jokes (mainly his voice actually causing physio Gary Lewin’s fractured ankle).

Despite his panned performance many felt there were some decent points underneath his funeral whisper. The BBC bosses seemed to share the latter view as they added Neville along with Ruud Gullit and Rio Ferdinand to their Match of the Day coverage.

The move also means he will be competing against his brother Gary in the punditry stakes. He will be doing well if he even get half as much love as his brother has gotten since entering the studio. I’m sure it was the same at home too.
