LIVERPOOLโS STUNNING BID to bridge a 24-year wait for the title has seen their top players rewarded with PFA player of the year nominations.
In the list, released this afternoon, skipper Steven Gerrard and strikers Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are in line for recognition.
Chelseaโs Eden Hazard, Man City midfielder Yaya Toure and Southampton playmaker Adam Lallana make up the list.
Gerrard is the only one on the list to win the award before (2005/06) while itโs the second year on the trot that Hazard has made the shortlist.
The Belgian is also on the young player list along with Sturridge. Thereโs no room for Irelandโs in-form full back Seamus Coleman whoโs been so influential for Everton this year.
Who do you think should get the playersโ award?
Poll Results:
While Luis Suarez is most likely to pick up the top award, the honours for young player seem less predictable. Evertonโs Ross Barkley, Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, Luke Shaw of Southampton and Anfield favourite Raheem Sterling make up the nominations.
Cant help but wonder, if Seamus Coleman was an England international, would he be on this shortlist?Having said that the nominees are pretty well justified.
When then is the Scot David Moyes lining up a major bid for Luke Shaw and not for his own previous player and signing Seamas Coleman? Not everything is a conspiracy theory against the Irish!
Never said it was a conspiracy theory but I think its defiantly an influence to an extent
Iโd put Jon Flanagan ahead of Seamas Coleman based on this yearโs form. The bias works both ways you would accept. Irish player has a decent game heโs blown out of proportion in this country.
Not too sure if Barkley is justified to be honest. He hasnโt been a regular starter with Everton this year and Coleman has scored more than him from right back.
Iโm a Liverpool fan and itโs an absolute joke if you think Flanno has been better than Coleman this year. Coleman is the best full back in the league.
Sorry @Jason id have to strongly disagree there, Coleman has scored the most goals for a defender in the league(as far as i am aware) and has been extremely consistent which is admirable considering he was injured for a spell, Irish or not hes been extremely standout this season so I would hardly describe it as โblown out of proportionโ. Having said that Flanagan has had a solid season but Coleman is the superior player
Eh, Jason. Shaw is a left back, Coleman is a right back. United are a little short in the left back department. Thatโs probably why Moyes is bidding for Luke Shaw (left back) and not Seamus Coleman (right back). Hope that helps to clear things up for you.
Flanagan is totally overrated and will
Not be liverpoolโs left back next year. Heโs a home town boy with a great work ethic but limited ability both in defence and attack. Analyse his performances before you disagree based on a Jamie redknapp opinion
Iโm a Liverpool fan and Iโd have Coleman all day long over both shaw and Flanagan. Flanagan has done well this season and has shaw but Coleman very rarely makes a mistake in defence and gets forward at every opportunity with some great crosses and assists and gets a nice few goals
Thatโs crap aswell, azpillcueta far and away the best this season, and Iโm a pool fan. He hasnโt been mentioned anywhere
@aidan Seamus Coleman is a right back. Shaw and Flanagan are left backs. Why are you even comparing them? It makes no sense.
As a Liverpool fan, I totally agree, I actually think he is, at best average. He gets skinned way too easy.
And now, Azpilicueta (another left back) Do any of you intend on comparing Coleman with people who actually play in the same position as him?
Flanagan is a right back filling in at left, ppl should really check players positions before commenting!!! โDaveโ is another player at Chelsea playing left full whose a natural right back
Flanagan is by no manner of means the best left/right back in the league, or even the finish product for that matter. However he is young and is a real Scouser, which shouldnโt be under estimated. I remember for the first few years of his career a certain Mr Gerard was at times unreliable and look what he became. A young, home grown, determined young fella should never be written off.
Heโs a right back thatโs plied his professional career at left back. Not the most convincing argument.
I think skrtel has scored more no? I think heโs on 7
Sturridge, Ramsey and Hazard being eligible for the young player of the year makes the award absolutely laughable. They have over 500 career league appearances between the 3 of them.
20 or 21 should be the cut off age.
Lets just wait and see the team of the yearโฆ.my guess it would look like this,
No stand out keeper(Cech?),Kompany,Terry at centre backs,Coleman and Dave at full back,Henderson(lalana) Gerrard and Ya ya behind Suarez,Sturridge and Hazard
Who does Dave play for??
De Gea has been very good for Man U
Chelsea
Chelsea left back
Seamus Coleman is 25 lads. Cut-off age for young player of the year is 23
@Cian, I donโt think anyone was questioning him not being nominated for the young player of the year award but rather the senior award.
Heโs had a fine season but itโs a shortlist of 6. Do you honestly think he should be ahead of any of them?
well I honestly think its a toss up between him and Lallana, Lallanas been immense this season in fairness but it could easily have gone either way I think, shame thereโs no defender in there too seems to be attack dominated
Nobody has mentioned Liverpoolโs unsung hero this season and thatโs Martin Skrtel. The man is an absolute rock and has scored more goals than so called highly rated/promising players who are going to be the next world beaters.
To stay and fight for his place and become Liverpoolโs best defender is testament to him and Rodgers. Heโs been a tower of strength and should walk into any team of the season.
He certainly would walk into any Rugby or Netball team thatโs for sure !
All the liverpool fans voting
Who would you vote for? Love him or hate him, Suarez has easily been the stand out player of the season, hopefully leading his team to the league title.
Not one mention of Silva, I couldnโt believe he didnโt make the cut
Flanaganโs a right back whoโs being used in left back. Heโs shown consistency and a hard work ethic but Coleman has provided more attacking depth.
My Tem of the Year: Marshall Coleman Skertel Terry (urgh) Baines Gerrard Yaya Lallana Sterling Sturridge Suarez
Back four: coleman, terry, skrtel, azpilicueta. SORTED!!
If saurez doesnโt get it Iโll be very surprised.
