Peter O'Mahony undergoes second operation to fix other shoulder

Rob Penney says the Munster skipper is getting both ‘tidied up’.

MUNSTER HEAD COACH Rob Penney has revealed that captain Peter O’Mahony underwent an operation on his right shoulder yesterday.

The Ireland flanker had reconstructive surgery on his left shoulder last month, bringing his season to an end.

And the 24-year-old has gone under the knife once again in a bid to avoid being troubled by shoulder problems in the remainder of his career.

O’Mahony is expected to be sidelined for six months, but Penney is hopeful that he will benefit from the procedures in the long term.

“He has had ongoing issues for a long time with the shoulders so he is getting both of them tidied up,” says Penney.

“It is brilliant and it is great. He can get them out of the way now and he can hit the ground running early next season, post his rehab, and not have any issues with those for the rest of his career. That’s his hope.

“When it is right it is right, you can’t put time on it.”

O’Mahony injured his left shoulder in the Heineken Cup quarter-final win over Toulouse a month ago.
