MUNSTER COACH ROB Penney said his team “just didn’t turn up” after today’s surprise 29 – 23 Heineken Cup loss away to Edinburgh.
Despite claiming two tries in the first half from Mike Sherry Casey Laulala, Munster trailed the Pro12′s bottom side 19 -17 at half time.
After going into what Penney admitted was a quiet dressing room at the break, the southern province improved in terms of territory, but could not cut out enough errors to stretch the Scots’ defence.
“It’s very frustrating when you’re not seeing the intensity and endeavour around the field,” Penney told Newstalk post match. “It was highly evident on the first try [scored by Matt Scott} - we weren't having guys reloading the ruck effectively."
He added: "We just didn't turn up, fundamentally. We were flat and paid the price."
The result leaves Munster with one point in pool 6 instead of the five many had hoped for. With Gloucester (who face Perpignan today) travelling to Thomond Park next week, Penney called on his squad to 'restore pride in the jersey':
"That wasn't good enough today. that's one you'd be a bit embarrassed about looking back on. A couple of the guys won't be pleased with that.
"It's about re-establishing ourselves and what better way than next week."
