A FORMER CORK football selector is to take over as coach of last year’s Kerry and Munster club champions Dr Crokes.
Peadar Healy, who served as a selector with the Rebels during Conor Counihan’s spell in charge and was a key part of the 2010 All-Ireland winning coaching team, is set to come on board with the Killarney club.
Dr Crokes had enjoyed a brilliant run of success in winning four successive Kerry senior football titles between 2010 and 2013 while they claimed Munster club triumphs in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Their efforts to land an All-Ireland club crown were thwarted at the semi-final stage when losing to Armagh’s Crossmaglen Rangers in 2012, Dublin’s Ballymun Kickhams in 2013 and Mayo’s Castlebar Mitchels in 2014.
That defeat to Castlebar last February saw Colm Cooper tear his cruciate ligament and miss the rest of the season. Dr Crokes subsequently were knocked out of the Kerry county championship in July by Killarney rivals Legion after previously losing to Rathmore.
They did win the Kerry club championship but the county final success of Austin Stacks saw them go forward to represent the Kingdom in Munster with Stephen Stack’s side winning that title and advancing to an All-Ireland semi-final against Slaughtneil next February.
