Paul Scholes says Toni Kroos is the man to solve United's midfield problems

The former United star also believes Germany’s defence could ultimately let them down.

PAUL SCHOLES BELIEVES Man United signing 24-year-old Germany star Toni Kroos would solve their current midfield dilemmas.

In his latest Paddy Power column, the Old Trafford legend writes:  “I love watching Toni Kroos. I think he’s brilliant. I love the way he controls the ball and controls games. He can really play a pass and has superb vision.

“Kroos is capable of scoring goals too, from outside the box on either foot. I just wish Man United had signed him (yes, it is good to see United bringing in new players, but they haven’t signed anything like the quality of Kroos).”

The Bayern Munich star has been heavily linked with the Red Devils in the past, while more recent reports suggest he is set to sign for Real Madrid.

However, for all Kroos’ brilliance, Scholes thinks Germany’s defence could ultimately let them down in their bid to win the World Cup.

“Joachim Low’s strategy of using four centre-backs has managed to keep to clean sheets in the group games for Germany. However there are weaknesses in his team.

“He must be doing something right with more than 100 caps but Per Mertesaker is slow and cumbersome while at left-back the Schalke centre-half, Benedikt Howedes, looks a little vulnerable. Mats Hummels is not the quickest either.”

Has it now become necessary to comment / report on everything Paul Scholes says?

    Hi Iarla,

Paul Scholes is a highly respected figure in the game. This article may not be your cup of tea, but a lot of people find what he has to say about Manchester United etc interesting.

Paul I think Scholes was highly respected for what he did on the field and even as a Liverpool fan I’d put him up there as one of the best but I find what he has to say in punditry and his PP articles quite insufferable. He’s like the complete opposite to Gary Neville who I completely hated for his entire career as both a footballer and a person but now I find his opinions on everything to be pretty much spot on. This is just my own opinion of course.

Scholes was a phenomenally intelligent footballer who obviously understands the game and doesnt spout the usual automated drivel we’re subjected to on ITV and BBC.i’m only sorry we don’t hear more of him……

I have no problem with the content of Paul Scholes’ articles, or his opinions as an analyst / pundit, but my question is why is what Paul Scholes says more relevant than the 100 other pundits that have columns writing about the World Cup.
Paul Scholes didn’t speak publicly for his 18 year career and everyone respected him for that. Now it seems everything he says is to be treated as the most important thing in football to be discussed.

Thought sports writing was meant to be about your own opinion on relevant topics. Could just post a link to the article instead of a lazy summarization and a few “sound bites”

People are upset because Scholes is turning out to be nothing like people expected him to be! He might be blunt and to the point but nothing he has said I have disagreed with. And there is not many more ex players more respected that are worth listening too. Keep it coming Scholesy
