Dudey Army, assemble! McCloskey set for Belfast bout against Perez

Dungiven’s Paul McCloskey fights Manuel Perez in the Odyssey Arena on 22 September.

PAUL MCCLOSKEY WILL add some more Northern flavour to a big night of boxing when he takes on Manuel Perez on 22 September in Belfast.

The Dungiven light-welterweight returns to the ring as part of the undercard before local star Carl Frampton defends his belts against Canada’s Steve Molitor. The fight will be shown live on Sky Sports.

Jamie Conlan, brother of Olympic bronze medallist Michael, Martin Lindsay and Eamonn O’Kane also feature on the Saturday night bill in the Odyssey Arena.

A win against Perez, an NABA champion, would get McCloskey’s career back on track after a disappointing 18 months.

The 33-year-old suffered a shock reversal in front of a home crowd in May when America’s DeMarcus Corley stopped him in the 10th round.

It was McCloskey’s second defeat in three fights, taking his previously unbeaten record to 23-2.

In April 2011, his world title shot against Amir Khan was stopped because of a cut in the sixth round but McCloskey bounced back in the Odyssey five months later with a unanimous decision over Bredis Prescott.
