Watch the Dubs new attackers hit the net

It wasn’t familiar faces who raised the green flags for Dublin against Mayo yesterday.

THE DUBS CLINCHED their place in this year’s Division 1 football league final yesterday.

Jim Gavin’s side hit the net twice in their 2-16 to 0-16 semi-final win over Mayo in Croke Park.

Bernard Brogan, Diarmuid Connolly and Paul Flynn all started in Dublin’s attack but it wasn’t any of those marquee names who raised the green flags.

Instead youngster Paul Mannion and newcomer Jason Whelan stepped forward to ensure the Dubs are closing in on their first league title in 20 years.

Kilmacud Crokes player Mannion, who is still eligible for the U21 ranks in 2014, was starting only his fourth senior league game for Dublin.

While Whelan had just been drafted in after Ballymun Kickham’s run to the St Patrick’s Day All-Ireland club final.

Yet they left Mayo reeling as they notched cracking first-half goals.

The second goal was the best in my opinion, fantastic shot and bend on the ball.
