CHESTERFIELD HAVE CONFIRMED the appointment of former Sligo Rovers boss Paul Cook as the club’s new manager.
The League Two side made the announcement this evening after securing Cook’s release from Accrington Stanley.
Cook, who took Rovers into Europe before taking charge of Accrington last February, has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract. He will take over from former Irish international midfielder John Sheridan.
Under Sheridan, Chesterfield could only manage four wins from 14 games this season, yet are one point and three positions better off than Stanley.
“I’m delighted to be the new Chesterfield manager,” Cook told the club’s website. “It’s a fantastic club with a great infrastructure and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”
The club’s chief executive Chris Turner said: “Paul did a fantastic job in Ireland and has done well with a very small budget at Accrington. He’s very hungry to succeed and hopefully the change of direction will bring success to the club.
“I’d like to thank Tommy Wright and Mark Crossley, who have done excellent jobs in very difficult circumstances over the last couple of months. I’m delighted that they are staying.”
Cook, 45, will be officially unveiled as Sheridan’s successor at a press conference at the Proact Stadium tomorrow.
