Cork's Patrick Horgan free to face Cats after Croke Park hearing

The Glen Rovers man was sent off in the Munster final defeat to Limerick.

CORK FORWARD Patrick Horgan has successfully appealed the red card he picked up in the Munster SHC final defeat to Limerick last weekend.

The Glen Rovers clubman was dismissed moments before half-time at the Gaelic Grounds.

Horgan will now be free to face Kilkenny in a much-anticipated All-Ireland SHC quarter-final tomorrow week, the Rebels have confirmed.

The forward travelled to face officials at Croke Park with Cork skipper Pa Cronin and goalkeeper Anthony Nash, with the Rebels arguing the incident was accidental.

That decision proves he was wronged. It should never have been a red, common sense prevails and all the bias folk are proved wrong!

That decision too send him off was a joke if it was any county I would feel the same, it ruined the game, and any person that saw it as red should never watch a hurling match again, it was the sliotor that done the damage

Good man Tommy K, bit of panic setting in with the cats maybe? There should be a suspension for James McGrath after making a balls of the game.

Weather you are from Cork or any other county on this island,if u get sent off because of a bad decision by a referee you r perfectly entitled to get the red card rescinded, well done all concerned.

It wasn’t a sending off but the letter of the law insists you CANNOT strike another player. There was no intent and no malice buy the referee made the decision by the rule book. It wouldn’t have made a difference cos no man is worth 9 points and cork will have no excuses when kk hammer em now

Limerick better team on day ill agree and deserved to win but how can you say what influence he would of had?? It was level when he got a red. The amount of ball the free man sweeped up not worth anything? Anyways old news, onto Kilkenny next weekend.

Very hard for referees to take here. Everyone agrees it was harmless but by the letter of the law by gaa the ref was correct. Leave the result etc out of it. The gaa need to now look at their own rules now.

It doesn’t matter how soft or unintentional it looked. The fact is his hurl connected with the back of the helmet and it’s a red card. Put your bias to one side. It’s irrelevant that it “ruined” the match. It was a reckless swing of the hurl. The ref got it right. The rules are very clear. But once again the GAA have wilted and let the offender off. For reasons like this I wouldn’t let my kids play hurling.

That’s your kids loss DublinDweller, hurling is by far the most enjoyable sport to play & there are far fewer serious injuries received playing hurling than there are in football or rugby. It was far from a dangerous pull.

Well dweller, maybe you should look back at the Dub v Wex replay, if the ref didn’t use common sense and stuck to the laws Dublin wouldnt be Leinster champions. Sticking a broken hurley into another players chest is worse I’d say . Keep those children in the cotton wool.

Hemlets were not made compulsory for the risk of players banging their heads after falling over, they are compulsory because so many blood and head injuries were happening as a result of hurleys connecting with heads! The ironic thing is Pa’s tap was so light the Limerick player would have been fine even without a helmet! Your point is null and void I’m afraid!

I’d have to agree with dublindweller – whether it’s through malice, recklessness or simply carelessness (as I think it was in this case) striking is striking and the rules say that’s a red card.

Corks best player against Clare and was doing well before the red, dangerous attacker. Coughlan still unproven. Hoggie doesn’t miss them frees that Coughlan missed from the 20. Great boost.

It was a soft enough red but he can have no complaints, should not be overturned but no surprise that it was. At least it will stop the langers making excuses when kk knock em out next weekend!

Typical Corkies taking my comments as a slight on their county. Whatever fouls Dublin committed against Wexford, or any team for that matter, are not relevant to this discussion. A more defensive people I have not met. Second-city syndrome how are ya?

Seriously dweller…stop talking about a sport you know nothing about and go back to complaining about management at Shamrock Rovers! If the ref sent every player off responsible for this type of “striking” we would seldom see a game ending with more than 20 players on the pitch!
