Former Arsenal assistant Pat Rice admitted to hospital with cancer

Rice, 64, begins treatment following cancer diagnosis.

FORMER ARSENAL ASSISTANT manager Pat Rice has been hospitalised after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Rice, 64, spent a total of 44 years at Arsenal including 16 seasons as Arsene Wenger’s number two before retiring in 2012.

“We can sadly confirm Pat Rice is in hospital receiving treatment for cancer,” a club statement this morning read.

“Everyone at Arsenal Football Club sends him our best wishes. Our thoughts are with Pat and his family.”

Rice made over 400 appearances for Arsenal in the 60s and 70s but finished his playing career at Watford before returning to the Gunners in a coaching capacity in 1984.

Born in Belfast, the former Northern Ireland international was named an MBE in 2013 New Years Honours.
