Cork County Board reach agreement with residents group over Páirc Uí Chaoimh redevelopment

However, three appeals remain in place against the proposed work.

Updated at 4.30pm.

THE CORK COUNTY board has reached agreement with a local residents group over the proposed €70million redevelopment of Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

In a statement today, the Board said they had undertaken a ”comprehensive memorandum of understanding” with the Ballintemple Area Residents Association (BARA) which would result in their appeal against the stadium and center of excellence being withdrawn.

Earlier this year, Cork City Council granted planning permission for the project that would see the stadium transform into a 45,000 seat arena with “state of the art playing and training facilities, performance assessment and rehab facilities, an all weather pitch, restaurants, conference facilities and a museum.”

However, a number of appeals were lodged with An Bord Pleanala after the decision was taken.

Today though, a statement from the Board read:

“Cork County Board G.A.A. and Ballintemple Area Residents Association are pleased to announce that they have agreed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding.

“The memorandum contains a set of proposals which identify new consultative structures between the parties going forward and address specific issues of concern to residents.

“The memorandum was signed last night by representatives of the Board and BARA and was the culmination of intensive discussions over several weeks.

BARA has informed An Bord Pleanala that it has withdrawn its objection/observation to the redevelopment of Páirc Uí Chaoimh and the establishment of a Centre of Excellence by Cork County Board.”

However, a spokesperson for An Bord Pleanala told TheScore.ie their oral hearing of “three valid appeals” would continue adding that BARA were not in a position to withdraw their appeal as they were just one part of a larger “umbrella group” who appealed Cork City Council’s decision.

“The case is not concluded,” he said.
