GALWAY FOOTBALL LEGEND Padraic Joyce helped save his club Killererin from suffering senior club relegation today as he struck 1-5.
Killererin – county champions in 2004, 2007 and 2010 – were facing the prospect of the drop but the 37 year-old All-Ireland winner stepped up to help them stave off a drop to the intermediate ranks.
Killererin ran out 2-10 to 0-11 winners over Menlough in today’s Galway senior football relegation final.
Early goals by Joyce – who won six Connacht titles, two All-Irelands and three Allstars during a glittering inter county career – and 2011 Galway All-Ireland U21 winner Michael Boyle set Killererin on the road to victory and they hung on for success from there.
Tomorrow the football focus in Galway switches to the senior championship final in Tuam Stadium which sees reigning champions and overwhelming favourites Corofin go up against outsiders St Michael’s, who are appearing in their first ever decider.
