Man United's Paddy McNair receives first Northern Ireland call-up

The 19-year-old defender has been rewarded by Michael O’Neill after breaking into the team at club level.

MANCHESTER UNITED DEFENDER Paddy McNair has been included in the Northern Ireland squad for their trip to Bucharest.

Michael O’Neill’s men top their Euro 2016 qualifying group thanks to three wins from as many games and take on second-placed Romania on 14 November.

With United team-mate Jonny Evans missing through injury, uncapped 19-year-old McNair has been drafted into the senior panel for the first time.

The Antrim native is one of a number of young players given a chance by new manager Louis Van Gaal this season and has featured three times already for the Premier League club this season — most recently in their 1-0 loss to Manchester City last weekend.

Here is the squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Roy Carroll (Notts County/ENG), Alan Mannus (St Johnstone/SCO), Michael McGovern (Hamilton Academical/SCO)
