MANCHESTER UNITED LEGEND Paddy Crerand waded into the Luis Suarez debate — by claiming that he would never get tired of punching Liverpool’s controversial Uruguayan striker.

Crerand’s comments come in the wake of Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park where Suarez created one goal, scored another, and then had a match-winner incorrectly ruled out for offside in the game’s final moments.

Suarez celebrated Liverpool’s opening goal with a theatrical dive in front of the Everton bench, a not-too-subtle response to comments made by manager David Moyes in the build-up to the game. Moyes claimed that Suarez was running the risk of driving fans away football with his theatrical behaviour on the pitch.

Crerand said that he could not imagine a Manchester United player celebrating in a similar manner.

“You wouldn’t get fed up punching him, would you?” the Glasgow native on said on MUTV’s The Paddy Crerand Show.

“I shouldn’t be saying that, it’s not a nice thing to say. I shouldn’t say that.

It’s just the way he behaves. His behaviour is disgusting. I mean, if he’s got a family, I hope he brings them up better than he’s been brought up.

Crerard clarified his comments and said: ”It’s not funny. It’s a local derby.

“That could have incited the Everton fans. He’s fortunate that he’s done that where the Everton fans aren’t.

“For incitement like that, he should be punished for that. I’m not saying you should punch him all night or anything like that.”

Show presenter Stewart Gardner went on to offer an apology on Crerand’s behalf, saying: “Paddy was just joking, ok? He’s just joking.”

“Another show, another apology,” Gardner added.

Crerand tweeted on Tuesday afternoon to explain that his comments had been intended as a joke.
