Kildare’s Paddy Brophy has set a high bar for last-minute winners

Brophy scored six points against Mayo yesterday but his last was the pick of the bunch.

IT TOOK SOMETHING special to separate Kildare and Mayo in Newbridge yesterday and Paddy Brophy duly obliged.

Kevin McLaughlin’s pointed free left the sides level at 2-18 apiece in stoppage time at the end of an absorbing Division 1 opener.

But Kildare weren’t done and they marched straight back down the field to give Brophy one last shot at the win.

Stuck way out on the sideline and under pressure from Lee Keegan, the Celbridge youngster took his chance — and floated this beauty over the bar.
