Pacquiao hoping to finally fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2012

Manny Pacquiao, speaking to the press ahead of his clash with Juan Manuel Marquez, has an even bigger name in his sights.

MANNY PACQUIAO BELIEVES that the fight that the whole boxing world wants to see – the Filipino vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. – will happen next year.

The pair were due to clash last year before a row over blood testing scuppered the arrangement, while political issues stopped any issues from being resolved.

However, Mayweather’s advisors have recently made positive noises about a bout and Pacquiao will happily take on the unbeaten American.

“I don’t have an idea right now, but hopefully the fight will push through next year. We’re going to pray that and hopefully there’s no problems with the promoter,” said Pacquiao.

“It’s going to be a good fight if that fight happens. I’m sure that millions of people are going to love to watch that fight.”

In the meantime, the 32-year-old takes on Juan Manuel Marquez this Saturday and says that he will continue to box for a ‘few more years’ but that he eventually wants to get into politics.

“I think I’ve got a few more years in boxing, but I’m not going to stay too long as I’m going to focus on being a public servant.”
