Pacquiao knocks down challenger SIX times in latest defence - calls out Mayweather again

Fans deserve to see us fight, Pacquiao says as he calls out Floyd Mayweather again.

MANNY PACQUIAO, HIS promoter and his trainer all threw down the gauntlet to Floyd Mayweather after the Filipino boxer comprehensively battered the latest challenger to his world welterweight crown into defeat.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been wanting this fight, it has to happen,” said the eight-weight world champion after knocking down Chris Algieri six times on his way to a huge points victory.

“The fans deserve it. It’s a good thing that we talk about that fight. It’s time to say yes,” added the WBO welterweight champion.

His promoter Bob Arum and trainer Freddie Roach were even more direct in calling out unbeaten light middleweight champion “Money” Mayweather, who competes with Pacquiao for the moniker best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

Mayweather and his promoters have previously found reasons to avoid the fight, but the 82-year-old Arum, who has been trying to secure the match for almost four years, said “enough is enough”.

No excuses. Manny knocked Algieri down six times in one fight. That’s twice as many knockdowns as Mayweather has had in all his fights in the last 12 years.

“All they have to do to is pick up the telephone. I’ll be at the phone. Manny will be at his phone,” added Arum.

Mayweather potentially has more to lose in a fight against Pacquiao. He has a perfect 47-0 record and has won world titles at five different weights, but a defeat at the Filipino congressman’s hands could blot that streak.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach claimed there would always be a question mark over the pair’s careers if they never met in the ring.

“I think there will … always be an asterisk on their records,” said Roach.

“Let’s face it, the best should fight the best and they’ve been the best guys out there.

This is something that will haunt them forever if it doesn’t happen.

Roach said as much he wanted Mayweather to come to the table, he also knew that it would be the toughest assignment of his glittering Hall of Fame training career to prepare Pacquiao for it.

“He will be the best opponent that we’ve ever faced. I will really have to do my homework with Mayweather because he puts a lot of things together a lot better than most fighters.”

However Roach was more confident that it would happen after Pacquiao’s latest demolition job on the WBO light welterweight champion Algieri.

“Put it this way, I’m starting to watch tapes of Mayweather,” he revealed.

Pacquiao mocks Mayweather in a new TV commercial for Footlocker which he mimicked in the post-fight press conference. “He’s going to fight me?! Yes! Yes!” squealed Pacquiao to huge laughter all round.

If that fight happens next year it’ll be 5 or 6 years too late.

Pacquaio is still fast enough to beat Mayweather and that’s why the fight will never happen. He would be all over Mayweather for 12 rounds and while it is no guarantee that Pacman would win, he is a risk that Mayweather won’t take on.

Mayweather has spent most of his career avoiding this fight to protect the 0 behind his win number!..he epitomises all that is wrong with boxing..he can market himself all he likes on instagram, twitter and Facebook holding money for photos with his faux friends….but the asterix will always be there and all the photos and trash talk in the world will not remove it!!

I think Mayweather always planned to flight Manny late in their careers hoping pacman would loose some of his speed over time, what he didn’t count on is that his own speed and especially power has diminished big time he never looked like knocking any of his recent opponents down but still it would be a close fight ..

Midgets? Haha they’d beat the absolute crap into you if they wanted. Doesn’t matter what height they are, Pacquiao and Floyd are two of the finest boxers in history and would give anyone a good match.

Not disputing that Mayweather’s a d*ck, but you have to respect his ability as a boxer, even if he’s a pussy when it comes to fighting Manny.

you have to be trolling with a comment like that about mayweather and pacquaio.. pacquaio is up there with the most exciting boxers of any generation and mayweather is brilliant despite being hard to like style or personality wise. it would be a shame if these two boys dont “get it on”

Boxers at that level don’t “duck” each other. Obviously it’s still the marquee fight but anyone who has any idea what it takes to make a boxing match happen and the politics involved knows that as long as Bob Arum is Pacquiao’s promoter it is unlikely to happen.

Apparently they do duck each other. Khan is as worthy an opponent as Maidana or Ortiz surely yet he appears to have little hope of the Mayweather shot? I’m no fan of Khan at all but Mayweather won’t take him on either?
I’m not saying Pacquiao would beat Mayweather for sure but for a guy who espouses the love of money so much and who is almost at the end of his career then the Pacman matchup is a no brainer! Unless of course he is afraid to risk it? It really does look that way doesn’t it?

He’ll probably fight Khan at some stage, but the fight isn’t a money spinner yet with Khan not having a world level win in a long time. Beating Alexander might propel him to that fight.

Mayweather loves a fight against a Latino/Hispanic fighter to get the Mexicans to order the fight. And sure Mayweather loves money but he took on Canelo, De La Hoya, Mosley and Cotto all in their preferred weight classes when they were looking dangerous, and that’s only including recent fights.

Mayweather being a ducker is the biggest myth in boxing.
