EDDIE O’SULLIVAN HAS admitted he would be very interested in the Munster job.
With current coach Tony McGahan having left the post last month, O’Sullivan said “absolutely yeah,” when asked by Today FM’s Matt Cooper if he would be interested in applying for the job.
“It’d save me getting on the plane,” he joked. “You’re talking about taking over a team that’s a bit like Manchester United or Real Madrid – one of the biggest rugby sides in Europe.”
O’Sullivan added that club rugby was “very different” to international rugby, which, he says “comes in huge blocks of pressure,” in comparison with the more regular pressure that club rugby entails.
And on the subject of the vacant England post, O’Sullivan said: “I did submit my name, but I was told I wouldn’t be getting it.”
And speaking in reaction to this news on The Last Word, ex-Ireland international Neil Francis said O’Sullivan would be a good choice for the position, but added: “I don’t think he’s particularly popular among guys like O’Gara and O’Connell.”
O’Sullivan stepped down from his position as USA coach last November.
