THE OSPREYS GOT off to a perfect start in their Heineken Cup campaign, beating Benetton Treviso 38-17 at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea tonight.
The win was sweet revenge for Ospreys, who had lost 12-6 to the same opponents in the Celtic League earlier this season.
However, they left if late to secure the all-important bonus point as the fourth try did not come until Ashley Beck crossed for a last-minute touch down.
Fly-half Dan Biggar kicked 18 points for the Pro12 champions while Hanno Dirksen crossed the try-line twice in the second half to put the Welsh side on their way.
Ospreys had led 16-3 at half time thanks to Eli Walker’s first half try complimenting four successful kicks from Biggar.
Treviso number eight Manoa Vosawai crossed for the Italians, but only in the 55th minute, after Dirksen had grounded the first of his scores
The bonus point victory could yet prove invaluable for Ospreys and it could leave them top of pool two at the end of this weekend.
On Sunday, Toulouse and Leicester Tigers, the favourites to advance to the quarter finals, will battle it out in the south of France in what promises be the tie of the round.
