Anyone who saw Connor Sammon v Poland would realise he was completely out of his depth at this level. Why play such an inexperienced striker when you have someone like Doyle is just bizarre or should we really be surprised with Trap?

We need to win both games, which is highly unlikely with this manager.

Surprised but not shocked at Doyles omission , he struggles to get a start in a side threatened with relegation to League 1, and when he has played, goals have been in short supply

Strongest team for me, back 4 all regulars in the Premier League when fit. McCarthy and Whelan the best pair we have midfield, Walters on the right of the three, he’s played there numerous times for Stoke this season. Hoolahan one of the stongest players in the squad. Not been impressed by McClean for a while but still the best we have, Shane Long best lone striker in the squad.

There is no easy answer to that question- Walters and long are for me first choice- but besides the point I think Ireland are at a crossroads again- Trap needs to go and a fresh new manager and approach is needed.
It is time to start building a new era, starting with younger players and recruiting players
Trap has to go now-I can’t see us beating Sweden, terrible thing to say I know but having watched this team, they are not good enough-
A new face is needed who that is I don’t know- any suggestions??????

I’d go with Kelly at right back. Clark and St. Ledger in the middle. Wilson out left. Bit of a toss up between O’Shea and St. Ledger with his fitness maybe an issue, but has always been solid, if unspectacular for Ireland.

McCarthy and Whelan in the middle, McClean out on the left. Coleman on the right. Having Kelly and O’Shea in the sqaud gives us absolutley no excuse not to have Coleman in the team. He absolutely has to start.

Up top Hoolahan behind Long. Playing Wes there gives us the option to pack midfield when the going gets tough (and lets face it, it will be).

That would leave us some decent options off the bench to suit the circumstances.

Traditionally irish coaches are far to conservative, its refreshing to see a manager blood so many new players, but he hasn’t got the balance right, you need a core team in which Doyle should be a senior player, he is one of our best.. poor club form doesnt always carry through to international form for a variety of reasons…

Everyone seems to have Forde in their xi. He is nothing but a low champ standard keeper. Westwood is far better! But anyway: Westwood Coleman Wilson Clark Oshea Brady Hendrick McCarthy mcClean Hoolahan Long. That’s from the 23 available. Hendrick should get a chance, outstanding young prospect. Coleman was quality v. City at the weekend.

robbie keane should retire, his adding nothing of value, quality or genuine ability to the team now, he has only scored 3 goals in his last 14 games for ireland, two were penalties against kazakhstan & estonia, (quality opponents). Green thumbs for robbie out now, his swerved his country well, but his living off past glorys. He plays in the MLS for God sake aka retirement home for over the top footballers.
