NOW THAT THE dust has settled on London 2012, what did you make of it all?
It began with Danny Boyle’s spectacular opening ceremony and a surreal cameo from… James Bond.
Usain Bolt reassured the doubters that he is still the fastest man on this planet and Mo Farah claimed an emotional double in front of his home fans.
In the pool, Michael Phelps extended his medal haul to 22, Bert Le Clos stole his son Chad’s thunder and Missy Franklin and Ye Shiwen became new Olympic stars.
On a truly momentous Games for the hosts, Bradley Wiggins added the time trial to his Tour de France victory, Andy Murray beat Roger Federer and Jessica Ennis lived up to the hype to take top spot in the heptathlon.
Ireland’s most successful Olympics since 1956 saw the ExCel Arena turned green as Katie Taylor struck gold and our boxers didn’t stop there – John Joe Nevin picked up silver and Paddy Barnes and the Michael Conlan both earned bronze.
Cian O’Connor’s remarkable medal win in show jumping split opinion, and who could forget the terrific performances from many of our athletes such as Annalise Murphy, Rob Heffernan, Natalya Coyle, Gavin Noble, Andrzej Jezierski and Sanita Puspure.
And for those of us watching at home, there were the television delights like ‘Downtown’ with Timmy McCarthy, Sean Ban Breathnach’s commentary on Katie’s final and the many jackets of Kenny Egan.
So… what is your stand out moment of the London Olympics?
