So you must know that Bent has a full match in him. You also must know that Ross really wants to sit on the bench and not get some game time to help him recover from loosing a few scrums against SA. You also must know that we don’t really need some veterans in the important positions to give the young lads a bit of encouragement and set them up for a good match.

So you reckon putting Mike Ross, our most valuable player in a position we have little or no backup, into a game against Fiji (who have a paperweight scrum), instead of playing a guy who could be an excellent understudy, is a correct call?

This is absolutely nothing to do with team dynamics, it’s about the management having the foresight to develop players in a position they’re constantly complaining about not having enough players in!

You’re arguing a moot point. Ross was excellent last week, but we need a backup. When are we ever going to get a better chance to try out Bent on the international stage?

By the way, Michael Bent is probably the fittest prop in the Irish squad currently, having come straight from ITM Cup rugby.
